Getting Ready for Back to School: Family Calendar

Next week my teens go back to school. Although this school year will be a bit easier to manage (now that our oldest has moved out), I know I still need to make sure I am planning and preparing for a successful year. Now when I say successful, I mean organized and flowing. My goal is to reduce the number of chaotic mornings we have and make sure everyone knows what is going on each day. One of the systems I implemented last year and have faithfully continued is our color-coded family calendar. It is a dry erase calendar, hung … Continue reading

An Easy Way to Start Your Genealogy Blog

Genealogy and technology are two things that are becoming increasingly interconnected. However, not all genealogists are going to be tech savvy enough to know how to get their very own genealogy blog started. MyFamily.com provides an easy way for genealogists to get their own genealogy blog online. I think that most genealogists are using the internet in order to do their research. Websites like Ancestry.com, FamilySearch, and the National Archives have become extremely popular. It is fairly easy to get started using sites like those to get some genealogy research done, and to add to your family tree. Problems begin … Continue reading

A Calendar for Everyone

One thing I love about a new year is getting a new calendar, journal and planner. It’s the little things that make me happy. I love all that open space and all that time to make my life what I want it to be. That’s the idea anyway! I always keep a journal and a planner, I finally found a planner that has a full page for everyday so it can do double duty, this helps a ton, I can jot down things that happen during the day, funny things Hailey says and then end the day with my thoughts. … Continue reading

Calendars for a Cause

It’s true that these days I can’t live without my cell phone / personal assistant. All of my appointments are in there safe and sound, unless of course I drop my phone in a puddle, which I have been known to do. So I also have my good, old-fashioned wall calendar hanging in the kitchen for those times when my phone is dead or missing. Everyone should have one. But, instead of buying one of those cartoon calendars or one loaded with pictures of Brad Pitt, I prefer ones that raise money for children with special needs. There are plenty … Continue reading

Creating a Family Calendar

Having a family calendar in your home can go a long way to reducing the chaos and the stress of daily life. After many failed attempts to keep a family calendar going, I finally became a convert and made a commitment this year to do just that. It has really given us more breathing room and allowed us to be more organized. Another benefit of the family calendar is that we can limit the running around. We aren’t a running around family and much prefer to stay home and take care of things close to home. With clear commitments on … Continue reading

Home Blog Month in Review: October

As I sit here looking out my window at the backyard, the birds are hovering in the pine tree against a strong wind and steady rain. The temperature is chilly today, and the calendar reminds me that we have left October behind. October 1st Buy a Home for $1.75 It seems that the housing crisis has made some interesting news lately. Home Month in Review: September 2008 Has the weather turned cooler now that September has passed? Pretty soon, it will be time to get that heat turned back on! Meanwhile, check out all of the articles that were posted … Continue reading

Synchronize Calendars

Even if you have only one child, if you are sharing custody or trying to coordinate visits with a non-custodial parent, scheduling and communication take center stage. The best way that I have found to make sure everybody on both sides of the family know what is going on is to make sure that we periodically compare notes and synchronize our calendars. I do not want to give the impression that I am perfect or that things do not fall through the cracks. With three kids and two households, it is fairly tough to keep everyone on the same page, … Continue reading

Keeping Track of Everyone Without Losing Your Mind

If you are single parent like me with multiple children (and even those of you who may only have one child, but also have work, house, family, and other obligations to juggle), there may be those days when you think it is absolutely impossible to keep track of everyone. As children get older and head off in all sorts of different directions, just keeping a tally on who is where, which permission slips you have to sign, and the phone numbers for all the friends’ houses can seem like a full time job! I think the sooner you can put … Continue reading

Always on the lookout, especially at holiday time, I have been researching and contacting various stores to find out what some of the latest and greatest scrapbooking related gifts are. Of course there are the handmade gifts that we make with our supplies, but I am not here to talk about them. I am here to talk about how awesome scrapbooking related novelties and gifts are! The Closet Scrapper is one of my first stops when I am looking for cute scrapbooking gifts for myself or someone else on my list.
