This Week in Hollywood Couples

Another week, more news on Hollywood couples. This week, there were no breakups –at least none of which I can remember. This week, two-time mom Reese Witherspoon gave birth to her third child, a son named Tennessee James. Tennessee or James – whatever they are going to call him – is the first child for Witherspoon and second husband, Jim Toth. A statement was released that read in part, “Both mom and baby are healthy and the entire family is thrilled.” Witherspoon’s older two children are from her first marriage to actor Ryan Phillippe. Witherspoon and Toth, a talent agent, … Continue reading

Each week, the Insurance Podcast Roundup brings you brand new episodes of podcasts that discuss insurance related issues and topics. Listening to these podcasts is a great way to keep up with the changes that may affect the insurance that covers you and your family. NPR has an episode of “All Things Considered” that was released on April 26, 2012. This episode is called “Colorado Extends Medicaid To Some Adults Without Kids”. Typically, Medicaid covers children, women who are pregnant, people with certain types of disabilities, and people who are over the age of 65. Colorado found a way to … Continue reading

A Quiet Week

After Christmas there is always a bit of a letdown. Even thought the hustle and bustle of the season gets to be too much, once it’s gone, I kind of miss it. After Christmas is one of my favorite times as a parent. Hailey and I don’t have anything to do or anywhere to go, we can just hang out at home and enjoy each other’s company. When Hailey was younger the week between Christmas and New Years seemed to last forever. On Christmas Day Hailey would go to her father’s until New Years Day. That was always a long … Continue reading

Insurance Podcast Roundup – Week of November 22, 2011

It is time for this week’s Insurance Podcast Roundup. This is a good place to start if you are trying to keep up with the latest news about health insurance. Sometimes, it makes more sense to listen to someone explain an insurance related matter than it would if you sat down and read about it yourself. NPR has an episode of “All Things Considered” that was released on November 21, 2011. This episode is called “California Republicans Quietly Embrace Medicaid Expansion”. Some of the same politicians who have been very loud about calling for the defeat of the Affordable Care … Continue reading

Reese is Married, Jackie is Alive, and Charlie is Quiet

Reese Witherspoon is officially off the market. Witherspoon and her boyfriend, Hollywood agent Jim Toth, married last Saturday at her ranch estate in Ojai, California. Witherspoon, 35, began dating Toth, 40, in February 2010 and the couple became engaged last December. Witherspoon, who was previously married to actor Ryan Phillippe, wore a pale pink Monique Lhuillier gown with Jimmy Choo platform sandals while Toth wore a Rag & Bone suit. Also in attendance at the ceremony and reception were Witherspoon’s children (Ava and Deacon), Sean Penn and Scarlett Johansson, Tobey Maguire, Robert Downey Jr. and wife Susan, and Alyssa Milan … Continue reading

Keeping Quiet

When you’re used to talking about things it’s hard to not talk. Lately I have been finding it difficult, as Mick has been reading my newest novel Streets on a Map. I found it hard to sit next to him, wondering what he was thinking as he was turning the pages, wondering how he was responding to what I’d written. I know other writers and their husbands and loved ones are their first readers while the manuscript is still in draft stage. I can’t work like that. Mick might get to see short pieces I’ve written and when I was … Continue reading

When Quiet Time Isn’t Working

I’ve been lucky because up until about 4 or 5 months ago, my 4 year old was still napping everyday. She has definitely outgrown the naps. Occasionally when she is really tired she will lay down and take one, but that time is rare. Since I also have a toddler that still naps, we are in the house during nap time still. I have explained to my daughter that nap time is now quiet time for both her and Mommy. The rules of our new “quiet time” are that she has to stay in her room, and play quietly or … Continue reading

The Outdoor Challenge: Bats, Frogs, and Quiet Wonder

How are you doing with the outdoor challenge? As the weather becomes more summery in our region, we’re doing quite well. In fact, my daughter fell asleep exhausted tonight because she had been playing outside for almost twelve hours today. It’s yesterday night that I want to talk about, though. Yesterday evening my husband was out. My daughter and I indulged in a ritual that we did frequently last summer. It’s a wonderful way to reconnect with your preschooler in the spring and summer months, even if you work outside the home. I find that working outside the home really … Continue reading

The Quiet Place

I’m constantly around people. It is an occupational hazard in a field like theatre that values face-to-face interaction as a defining principle separating it as a form from similar arts like TV and film. People, however, can also be distractions. While reading a script in a group can be a wonderful activity it does not follow that reading theoretical books in a group will produce the same results. Sometimes, you need a quiet place. Library. Yes, I know, it sends the shivers down my spine as well (some days) but the library is a place where there is, literally, a … Continue reading
