Choosing Single Motherhood: The Thinking Woman's Guide by Mikki Morrissette is a phenomenal book that addresses issues of moms who have decided to remain single and have children without a partner. This book was written by a mom who made the decision to partake in the role of motherhood on her own. This book gives insight to just what being a single mother by choice involves.

Included in this book is research regarding choice single moms, advice from the experts point of view and also interviews of many women who are single. This book answers those common questions that single women who are considering this lifestyle have.

Without beating around the bush, the author of this book answers questions truthfully giving her full knowledge on the subject of single motherhood.

Morrissette became the mother of two children who were conceived by a sperm donor that she knew. She addresses important issues such as the emotional and financial aspect of being a single mother. Other parenting issues like going through pregnancy alone, stress, and raising children who have special needs are also addressed. This book speaks with someone who knows first hand the struggles that come from raising children with special needs, as both of her children are special needs kids.

There is also a section in this book that speaks to kids who were raised by moms who choose this for their family. This section revealed very normal, well-adjusted children who loved their moms. Choosing Single Motherhood also has a special section that lists numerous resources that are on the internet or otherwise available for the single mother.

This five star rated resource book should be on every mother's bookshelf whether they are single by choice or single due to other circumstances. A valuable guide, Choosing Single Motherhood, fits the bill.

Angel Lynn writes in weight loss, single motherhood, and health.

As a single mother myself, I think it's kind of sad any woman would think of this as a "choice". If not for yourself, for the child at least. Children are (or at least should be) entitled to two parents and I think both people who create a life owe it to their children to at least try to raise it in a good, two-parent family. I'm sure my opinion isn't a popular one given today's social fads and fashions.

Hi. I agree with the comment above: I mean, you just don't like us or just can't find a good enough one? I mean guys. I think most people would agree IF both mom and dad have a healthy relationship, then having both is better than just one right? I just can't imagine a women not wanting her child to have a dad unless she's had some really bad experiences with men or has become disappointed with men in general. Yeah, I know finding a good man is hard to do; lots of guys are crummy. Tough for women I know. Sad I think. I really feel they'd rather a husband but circumstances force them to be single.

Although I am not a single mother by choice, this is a controversial topic. For me single parenthood is something that I do not believe in. There are those though who see nothing wrong with it and believe in it. It is for those people that I wrote this article. In my attempts to address single mothers in all forms in this blog, I would recommend this book for those who are choosing it. I, myself, am in agreement that a child should have a male and female parent that are married.
