Sometimes I’m a big fan of hold-ups. Not the kind that involves banks, money, robbers, firearms, the police, witnesses, etc., but the kind that involves something stopping a project temporarily. I remember being a student and thinking that an extension on that paper I hadn’t started because the teacher had taken ill was an amazing gift from God. I once got into trouble with my mom for falling asleep in the waiting room at the allergist’s office. In my defense, I had been at a sleepover the night before — and despite the clever name, had barely slept. The wait seemed endless, and I nodded over my waiting room magazine. Are You the Family Courier?

In my mind, there is a difference between running errands and being a courier. After all, often errands include necessary household tasks like buying groceries and getting the car serviced. Being the courier usually involves hauling people or things back and forth. It always feels to me like that courier-by-default job can suck up the most amount of time!
