Twelve Months Post Partum: An Exercising Journey Part II

By week two of my exercising excursions, I was ready to try something a little more difficult but still low impact.  I started switching off every other day with a total body toning and strengthening work (because of the stomach down mat work, I was not able to do this workout after week eighteen of my pregnancy).  It was a really hard workout and I was happy to only be doing it every other day! Two weeks into my new post partum workout routine and six weeks post partum, I started feeling a little more tone in my abdominal muscles. … Continue reading

Dangers of Exercising in Hot Weather

I don’t know what the weather is like in your neck of the woods. But here in Wisconsin we are experiencing unusually warm weather. In fact, I was just watching a newscast this morning and the weatherman said that normally we might experience a day or two in any given week with temps in the 90’s. But the temperatures have been in the 90’s, with high humidity consistently for days now, with no relief in sight. Now for those who are used to this or live in areas of the country where it hits triple digits, I’m probably not getting … Continue reading

When Sickness Prevents You from Exercising

The past week and a half has been a bit frustrating for me. For the second time in a year, I have costochondritis, which is inflammation in the area surrounding the upper ribs/breastbone. It feels like you are having heart attack symptoms. I am apparently one of those cases with an “unknown” cause, since I haven’t been sick and I haven’t experienced any trauma to my chest. Treatment consists of anti-inflammatory medication and rest….sigh. It’s really frustrating when you have been on a regular schedule with exercise, or if you had fallen off the routine but were finally back on … Continue reading

Excuses for Not Exercising: #2 I Am Just Too Tired

“I am just too tired to exercise” is something that I can really relate to, but then I have to remind myself that I will actually have more energy in the end. A typical day in the average American woman’s life: Crawl out of bed and attempt to put yourself together to look presentable for the day. Get the kids up, dressed, fed, organized for their day and try to manage to not get dirty or sweaty yourself in the process (this is extremely tough).Shuffle the kids to school or day care. Go to work and deal with unreasonable and … Continue reading

Exercising Together

Let’s face it—even though we know that exercise and physical activity is important, it can be incredibly difficult to carve out the time to do it as a single parent. One solution is to find physical activities that you can do with your kids—doubling up play and quality time with getting some exercise too. There are some classics that work well for single parents—riding bicycles together or going swimming, but you might also consider taking a yoga class or some other exercise class, or how about a dance class together? Hiking, camping, and bird watching are other ways to get … Continue reading

The Fitness Blog Week in Review for Jan 6-Jan 12

Good morning, it’s a soggy Saturday here. It started raining yesterday and it’s been quite drenching. They are worried about freezing temperatures and there’s every chance we’ll have freezing rain and ice storms today so I have a feeling we’ll be fairly housebound for the weekend. That’s all right; we’ve plenty to do to amuse ourselves. Our daughter got Dance, Dance Revolution for Christmas and it’s time she and I spent some time together dancing our little tushies off. But before we dive into that, here is our Fitness Blog week in review. Saturday, January 6 Personal Fitness Challenge – … Continue reading

Blowing Off Steam

Having an ex adds a lot of undue stress in your life; have children with that ex and the stress multiplies by about a hundred…thousand…ok, it’s more like an infinite amount of stress that never ends with the signing of the decree. You’d think it get easier now that you’re not together, but it’s actually a lot harder when neither one of you is trying to make things work anymore. My ex and I try to keep things as civil as possible when it comes to Logan. I don’t want him to ever feel caught in the middle of his … Continue reading

10 Fall Fitness Tips

The color of the leaves show me that the fall season is alive and well. But so are we, and we should take full advantage of that. One fall fitness tip that I have is to take advantage of the weather. This is the perfect time of the year for walking or cycling. Park trails and hiking areas allow for not only physical activity but beautiful scenery. A second fall fitness tip is to look into signing up for a Zumba or aerobics class. Or try something adventurous like a dance class. A third fall fitness tip is to involve … Continue reading
