Thankful To Work From Home

In the spirit of Thanksgiving, I feel that it is important that I share how grateful I am that I work from home. Owning my two part time home – based businesses has enabled me to do something that I always knew that I wanted to do – stay home with my kids. While my husband and I have made and continue to make many adjustments and sacrifices along the way to ensure that only one of us works outside of the home, I would not trade my current lifestyle for that which I could have if I were employed … Continue reading

It’s Not About What You Don’t Have

..but what you do with what you do have. An outgrown girl’s dress can become a nice shirt. An old video game system can be repaired for hundreds of hours of fun. A romantic dinner can be had at home instead of at a pricey restaurant. By focusing on what you do with what you have, with your blessings, you’ll live a happy life, not to mention a frugal one. As I mentioned yesterday, I was turning over the kids clothing from summer (and spring) to Winter (and fall). I won’t kid you, it was a lot of work and … Continue reading

I’m Not You

“I’m not you!” Why did those words sting a bit? It felt like my teen daughter was trying to let me know that she had no desire to be me…as if maybe there was something wrong with that? The reality is that my daughter wanted me to stop judging her. And she was right. She isn’t me. This was part of a painful conversation that we had several months ago, in the midst of what I can only call a tsunami of problems. Suddenly that close relationship we had was being rocked. And part of the problem was the fact … Continue reading

Another Day Another Way To Be Thankful For Home Based Work

It seems like every day, I find new reasons to be thankful that I work from home. Since every day in my life as a stay at home mom is slightly different, I have the opportunity to see my situation as a home – based professional from many different angles. Today, my observations in this area consist of two primary sentiments. Today’s first reason that I am thankful to be a home – based professional comes from my experience as a lawyer. I am thankful that as the owner of my own tiny little law firm, I am in control … Continue reading

Thankful For My Office Equipment Upgrade

There is a crazy amount of thunder and lightning outside, but I’m doing quite all right at my kitchen table home office. Fortunately, the kids are not at all bothered by all of the flashing and crashing so I am able to carry on with the evening’s work as scheduled. A few minutes ago, I began to worry about whether the electricity will be knocked out by the storm. Mid – worry, I caught myself. I realized that I no longer need to be overly concerned about losing electricity for one night, thanks to a wonderful birthday gift that I … Continue reading

Not Stressing

When you are hosting a graduation party and expecting more than 80 people to come through your home, you have a lot of planning to do. Then try throwing the party on a Sunday when Friday night you have another graduation party to attend and Saturday you are out of town all day. If someone had told me a month ago that this would be my situation, I would have gone bananas. It is not in me to function at this level. I am Miss Organized, always having my ducks in a row. I prepare and plan well in advance … Continue reading

I Could Use a Spouse Right Now

What an experience this has been! Hailey was in a car accident on Wednesday. Fortunately everyone in both vehicles was okay. Unfortunately the car is totaled. These past few days have been really hard on my own. Being a single parent is physically exhausting but sometimes the mental exhaustion is worse. I felt so torn between staying with Hailey to make sure she was ok and doing all the things the insurance company needed me to do. Did I do the right things? I haven’t filed an insurance claim in twenty five years so I had no idea where to … Continue reading

More Thankful Traditions

Gratitude is one of the attributes of happy people, and I try to cultivate it in myself and in my family. I don’t cultivate it because I want to be better than others. I just cultivate it because it makes me feel good to note all of the things that I can be thankful for. Even when the day is hard, it is easy to be thankful. I am thankful for my health. Yesterday I had severe back pain that was so bad that I couldn’t sit down. I was very grouchy. Yet at the end of the day when … Continue reading

Taking Time to be Thankful

I have two of the best co-bloggers I could want. Stephanie Romero and Sara Berthiaume provide intelligent, insightful and relevant content about the ins and outs of home business. Often I find our minds are on the same subject and our posts naturally complement each other. When our posts are not on the same subject we tend to round out the home business section making it a great resource for beginner and veteran home business professionals. We honestly do this without trying. We are simply three women with a passion for working from home and sharing it with others even … Continue reading

Thankful…Even If I am Working the Day after Thanksgiving

Yes, it’s the day after Thanksgiving and I am working. I don’t get to stand in a long line, waiting for door buster savings at my favorite stores…no Black Friday shopping for me. I didn’t get to sleep in very late. In fact, this week doesn’t feel much different than most weeks. The only way I was able to “take off” yesterday for Thanksgiving was to plan my work so that I would end up spending some of my Saturday doing it. Now don’t get me wrong…I am not trying to get sympathy. Would I rather be enjoying the day … Continue reading
