Judge Rules Hobby Lobby Must Cover Birth Control

A judge has ruled that Hobby Lobby must provide coverage for birth control in their employer sponsored health insurance. This is excellent news for women who work for Hobby Lobby, (and for their families)! Employers cannot impose their own, personal, religious beliefs upon their workers. Part of the Affordable Care Act requires health insurance plans to cover the cost of birth control. This is because health plans must cover everything that has been categorized as preventative care. Women’s preventative care includes birth control. Previous to this rule, women were having to come up with money out of their own pocket … Continue reading

When Depression Gets in the Way of Exercise

One of the biggest detriments to a fitness routine is depression. It can easily knock you off course and make it difficult to get back on track. Yet exercise can actually help with depression. Last week was an incredibly difficult one week for our family. We went through a situation that made fighting off depression very challenging. Needless to say I stopped exercising. I just had no energy to get up and move. Yet the reality is that when we are feeling this way, it is the best time to exercise. It can relieve some of those symptoms of depression. … Continue reading

Continuing Post Partum Exercise

Now that I am almost five months post partum (it is crazy how quickly time passes), I am realizing that my post partum journey is hardly over. As this stage of my life progresses and evolves, so must my post partum workout routine. It was at this point after my son’s birth that I finally picked up and stuck with a hard core exercise regiment. Gaging my progress, successful or otherwise, has been a particular challenge for me. In a lot of ways I tend to be extremely hard on myself (perhaps this is the source of my motivation). The … Continue reading

I Must Exercise

In the hustle and bustle of my busy life sometimes I forget to take care of myself. Everyday it seems like my to do list gets longer and longer and time for me gets pushed farther and farther to the bottom. Winter is especially hard, I get a little depressed in the winter, nothing bad, just a little SAD (seasonal affective disorder) but one major downside is that I get very lazy. Everything becomes just too much work. My house falls apart, I don’t cook and I certainly don’t exercise. All I want to do is lay on the couch … Continue reading

Overcoming the Obstacles to Exercise

Human beings need to exercise regularly. Regular exercise was not a big problem a century ago because the average person’s daily life required physical activity. Times have changed. Our survival no longer depends on the same physical demands of our ancestors, yet our bodies still require regular exercise to maintain optimal health. Numerous studies and years of research has revealed that it is equally important for pregnant women to remain active throughout their pregnancies and engage is regular exercise. What is Pilates? Developed by Joseph Pilates in the early 20th century, Pilates is a physical fitness routine that focuses on the mind controlling the muscles. The Marade Must Purchase Insurance

A group called iMatter is planning on holding a “Marade” in Salt Lake City, Utah. The overall purpose of the Marade is to bring attention to the topic of climate change. The Utah Department of Transportation is requiring the group to purchase an insurance policy, that would cost at least $2,500, in order to hold the event. This could, potentially, force the Marade to change the location of the event, days before it is scheduled to be held. The group, or movement, called iMatter was founded by a teenager named Alec Loorz, who is from Ventura, California. The iMatter movement … Continue reading

Four Ways to Get Exercise During Your Pregnancy

It’s comforting to me, a person who associates exercise with pain, discomfort and boredom, that even the most disciplined women must set aside their rigorous routines during pregnancy. Is it terrible to appreciate how pregnancy puts so many of us on level playing ground? The fact is, exercise is really good for pregnant women, but it must be modified for the safety of both mom and baby. You never want to be out of breath when you are pregnant, and you certainly don’t want to be jostling that poor baby around on the jogging path. Pilates has been recommended to … Continue reading

Defining Your Exercise Personality

Do you gravitate towards certain types of gym equipment more than others? Do you struggle to stick with your exercise routine? Experts say the way you answer those questions plays a big part in defining your fitness personality type. Researchers at the American College of Sports Medicine suggest that there are five distinct personality types that exercisers can use to develop successful fitness regimens. What’s more, experts maintain that using the personality types is a great way to structure a lasting exercise routine.
