Do You Think Jessica Simpson is Fat?

A slew of tabloids do and they are milking photos of the bigger blonde songstress for all they’re worth. And so it begins… another round of who’s fat in Hollywood. Jessica Simpson has been the talk of the World Wide Web since showing up to a concert gig wearing high-waisted jeans, a tank top, and the most hideous looking double-decker leopard print belt I’ve ever seen in my life. Forget about Simpson’s weight gain people… let’s talk about her choice in clothing! All week long the tabloids have been poking fun at the “porkier” version of the once rail-thin singer … Continue reading

The Homeschooling Blog Week in Review: September 10 to September 16

Do you have some reading to catch up on? (I have some writing to catch up on!) The home schooling blog saw quite a few articles this week and we also welcomed a new home schooling blogger: Michele Thorne. When you get a chance, make sure you offer her a warm welcome over here in home schooling. September 10 What Is Your Teaching Style? In a previous blog, I talked about why I feel it’s important for home schooling moms to make a point to learn what their teaching style is. In this article I cover the four basic types … Continue reading

Taking the Guilt Out of Discipline

So often as single parents we feel guilty for disciplining our children. We don’t want to be seen as the “mean” parent. You’re afraid that your kids won’t want to be with you anymore and they’ll go running to your ex. Make sure that your kids know that even though Mom and Dad don’t live together anymore they are still a team. It is important that you and your ex communicate about your rules and expectations for your children. Have clear consequences at both houses. You both need to take responsibility and discipline your children. Just because you are divorced … Continue reading

Discipline With Love

There is a difference between discipline and punishment. Although punishment is a form of discipline, it tends to be ineffective in most cases. When we learn to discipline our children with love it becomes more of a learning process than mere punishment. The goal of discipline is to correct behavior and to teach our children to be responsible members of society. We are raising the future generation. We have a great responsibility. Learning how to discipline your child can be an overwhelming thing for any parent. No two children are alike. Some forms of discipline may work well for one … Continue reading

Angry Ex’s Take Out Frustrations Over Children’s Hair

I don’t know who these people are, but they are apparently famous in England. Regardless, of how famous or infamous they are, these parents have stooped to a brand new low. According to the Daily Mail Online news rag, Katie Price and Peter Andre have gone head-to-head, so to speak to tick each other off. Apparently, when mom dropped the kids off to dad to spend Christmas with him, the son sported a blond steak down the center of his head, in sort of a faux Mohawk. It seems dad wasn’t too keen on the new hairdo as when he … Continue reading

What Would You Force Your Spouse To Do?

I know the word “force” seems a little strong, and generally speaking in a healthy marriage you’d never think of “forcing” your spouse to do anything, but there could come a time when force is needed. For instance, say your spouse was witness to some injustice, either at work or on the streets, but they were afraid of speaking up. You know speaking up’s the right thing to do, but you can’t seem to convince them. Until you get the bright idea to force them to, either by driving them to the police station or setting up a meeting with … Continue reading

Star Gigs—Inmates Running the Asylum

Anyone who tunes into the 2008 Miss Universe pageant next month has got to wonder who was in charge of casting. The beauty competition is set to air on NBC July 13th and when it does two of the most unlikely people in Hollywood will be presiding over it. Pageant organizers just announced that Jerry Springer and Melanie Brown (a.k.a. Mel B of the Spice Girls) will co-host the annual pretty girl fest. What? Let me see if I’ve got this right… you have a show that is taking place in Nha Trang, Vietnam and being beamed around the world … Continue reading

The Happiest Millionaire (1967)

Starring Disney movie staple Fred MacMurray, “The Happiest Millionaire” is the movie in which Lesley Ann Warren made her big screen debut. Playing Cordie Drexel-Biddle, the oldest child and only daughter of an eccentric millionaire, she brings to life the real Cordie, who wrote a book about her childhood memories upon which this movie is based. Mr. Biddle (MacMurray) is an unusual man to say the least. He teaches a Bible school/boxing class in a converted stable in the back yard, and a whole room of his house is dedicated to his pet alligators. Mrs. Biddle (Greer Garson) is a … Continue reading

That’s What You Get! — Rick Walton

This children’s picture book is a great combination of funny words and hysterical pictures. I laughed out loud as I reached the last page – I think it’s important that the parent enjoy reading the book as much as the child enjoys listening to it. Our main character is a rather accident-prone little boy who just keeps making mistakes. His mother has a sense of humor, thank goodness, otherwise he’d never survive childhood. We begin with the lad falling on his head when he got out of bed. His mother tells him that’s what he gets for sleeping in a … Continue reading
