Making Time for Family

Being a busy single parent it is difficult to find the time to do the things that you want to do. It seems like most days fly right by because you are so extra busy. When you do get time off it is important to let some things slide once in a while and make time for fun.

With the summer months fast approaching plan some special weekends when you feel that you can let some of your responsibilities take the back seat in order to put your family first. Plan to take 2 to 3 days during the month to just concentrate on you and the kids. This is not only good for the kids, but for you as well. It is a bonding time that is very necessary.

Some outings or activities that you might do:

Beach day. Pack up the blankets, the food, the sunscreen and the bathing suits. Leave early in the morning and plan to spend the day there. Do not forget the pails and shovels for the sand castle that you will build. This is a laid back day that everyone will enjoy. Literally, no stress.

Amusement Park Day: This is also an all-day event. Most parks have the pay-one-price for all of the activities that the park offers. Some parks even have a water play area. Try to go early in the morning, preferably on a weekday when there are fewer people. Take advantage of the savings and do not be in a hurry to rush home. If it is allowed bring your own food and drinks. It is much cheaper.

Zoo Day: If you have a decent zoo near by this is always fun. Who doesn't like the animals and watching their little antics? Some zoos also offer special shows that are not only educational, but also fun. Again, if you are allowed to bring your own food and drinks.

Park Day: Try to locate a park with a really awesome playground area. Pack a picnic lunch. Plan to take a hike with the kids and teach them about nature and safety. This costs nothing except maybe the park entrance fee. The kids will love it.

Spending time together is important. Even though you have so much work to do, you need this and they need this. Do not forget to bring a camera with you to capture it all. Lastly, while you are there you are not allowed to think about all of the things that you should be doing. This is playtime. Treasure it and make it last.
