Bonding With the In-Laws: The Youngest Sibling

One of the weirdest things about marrying into a large family was that I’ve been around for almost the entire life of my littlest brother-in-law.  When Jon and I first started dating, and I met the family for the first time, his youngest brother was only a bit over a year old.  While he knows most of Jon’s other siblings very well, because they all lived at home with him for years (and some still do), Jon wasn’t around much when he was growing up.  So Jon, his own brother, isn’t really that much more of a presence in his … Continue reading

Business Owner Seeks Younger Wife – For Better Insurance Rates

We all know that health insurance is expensive. If you knew that getting married to a much younger person could greatly reduce the cost of your health insurance, would you actually consider doing it? A small business owner, who is also a Rabbi, is giving this idea a try. There are a lot of people who cannot afford to purchase health insurance for themselves, or for their families. Businesses, especially small ones, struggle with the cost of the health insurance they offer employees. You know things are bad, economically speaking, when lawmakers are seeking solutions that will make health insurance … Continue reading

Marrying Young

If you support your child’s decisions does that mean that you agree with them? My daughter is getting married, she is only 18. We all think she is too young, they are both too young, does that mean we refuse to participate or do we support them but let them know that we wish they would wait? This is where I am right now. My only child has decided to get married. I tried to talk her out of it, not because I don’t like her boyfriend but because at 18 and 20 I feel that they are too young. … Continue reading

Marriage Types: Young

Like people, relationships and marriages are different. They vary in many aspects and areas. Some couples are more committed with covenant marriages while others are more open with polygamous marriages. Other people are in their second marriage. While some people marry later in life, some marry very early in life. I know some couples who married before they even graduated from high school. Like those couples who marry late in life, there are several reasons why a couple may choose to marry early or young. Some couples marry young due to the fact that they are expecting a baby. The … Continue reading

Not the Marrying Type

If I have to hear Anna Kournikova whine about how she never wants to get married I might scream. The tennis star made headlines earlier this week when she told reporters that while she has been dating her sexy boyfriend Enrique Iglesias for three years she has no plans to marry him… despite the fact that he has been proposing to her for the last year. What gives? Maybe it’s age. The ravishing blonde former tennis star is almost 27 while her hunky Latin lover is days away from turning 33. (Still young in my book.) Or perhaps Kournikova is … Continue reading

Is Jamie Lynn Spears Marrying Her Baby’s Daddy?

Don’t look for the 16-year-old to follow in her big sis’s footsteps by running off to Las Vegas and getting hitched before Christmas. But, it’s not because she and her boyfriend, Casey Aldridge don’t want to. According to TV’s “Access Hollywood,” the reason wedding bells won’t be ringing (just yet) for the “Zoey 101” star is because now that Jamie Lynn has gone public with her pregnancy her parents aren’t letting her out of their sight so she can’t “do anything she’ll regret.” The quote comes from a friend of the Spears family who tells the TV show that Jamie … Continue reading

Marrying for Pleasure

According to a report by the National Marriage Project, marrying voluntarily out of love is one of the problems with marriage today. Marriage was once considered a mandatory economic and political institution according to the report titled 2006 State of Our Unions. The co directors of the National Marriage Project David Popenoe and Barbara Dafoe Whitehead wrote the report. Marrying for pleasure is not the only reason Americans are less likely to marriage. Unfortunately, the other reasons cited in the report are not something I necessarily agree with. Those reasons included: The birth control pill that allowed for sexual relations … Continue reading

The Marriage Blog Week in Review: November 11-17

Is it really Saturday already? It seems kind of crazy that we’re already here, when I was just writing up the week in review last week. But here we are. It’s been an eventful week here at the marriage blog as we approach our first anniversary, we also crossed the 1,000th post line and Sherry and I continued our point and counterpoint in Marriage Debates. You’ll see changes taking place over the next week as we close in on Thanksgiving with a little re-organization and the adding of topics here and there. As always, we want to hear from you … Continue reading

Remarrying? Things to Think About

After a divorce or a widowing, the widow, the widower and the divorcee is not going to be immediately thinking about marrying again. In fact, the average person needs at least 2 years after such an event before they are willing to even consider marriage again. There are a number of things to think about when you are deciding whether you are ready or not and whether the relationship you are in is ready for marriage or not. Among the things to think about are: If you have children, you need their input – even if they are young children. … Continue reading

Prince Harry Adds to a Long Line of Royal Scandals – Part 2

Earlier in the week, I blogged about Prince Harry and his recent naked in Vegas photo scandal. Reports are surfacing that the royal family is still behind the young prince and why not? There have been royal scandals in England for quite some time now. Here are a few that might put Harry’s antics to shame: King Edward VIII abdicated the thrown to marry Wallis Simpson. Not only was she American, but she had been divorced – twice – and it was later revealed she was a Nazi sympathizer. Harry’s aunt, Princess Anne, was married to Mark Phillips. That in … Continue reading
