Teaching Responsibility Through Chores

We didn’t have a lot of chores growing up. Every Saturday we had to help clean the bathrooms, but that was about it. We helped a little here and there, but in the end, we didn’t do a whole lot to help around the house when we were kids. My mother tried, but after battling grumpy children for a couple years she finally gave up. In very little time, she had six spoiled teenagers who didn’t know how to cook or clean for themselves. I was the only one who had a consistent job through high school, and the others … Continue reading

Encouraging Kindness

It’s been snowing a lot here in Salt Lake. We probably got a good foot in the last week and with the way this winter has gone, I wouldn’t be a bit surprised if it just kept coming. One of the downsides to the never-ending snow is that the driveways and sidewalks need to be shoveled almost constantly. This week our sweet next door neighbor not only did our driveway but all of our sidewalks as well. It was such a pleasant surprise to go out to my car and not get stuck in the driveway this time. We have … Continue reading

Making Room for New Toys

With the abundance of Christmas presents Logan gets from friends and family each and every year, I find myself wondering where in the world we are going to put everything. We’ve already got so much squished into our little basement bedroom that I’m not sure much else will fit. Luckily, this gives us a fabulous excuse to do some spring cleaning. That means Logan and I will be going through all of his toy boxes and setting aside the toys he doesn’t play with anymore to make room for the new ones. He has several toy boxes and has been … Continue reading

Age Appropriate Chores for Kids

As parents it is our job to make sure our kids grow up to be responsible citizens of society, part of that is teaching them the value of hard work. One of the best ways to teach this is through giving your child chores during the week. Even your little ones can help around the house. The younger you start, the easier it will be, but don’t worry kids can learn to work at any age, so if you haven’t started yet, it’s ok, they just might fight you a little harder on it at first. Kids don’t want to … Continue reading

And Snap, the Job’s a Game!

Getting your kids to do chores around the house may seem like an impossible task. Let’s face it you probably don’t like vacuuming anymore than they do, so of course they are going to fight you on it! The younger you start the easier it will be. Believe it or not, even your toddler can help with simple chores around the house. Time to get those creative juices flowing! The more fun your kids are having the more likely they are to want to do chores the next time you ask them. Turn on some music and see who can … Continue reading

Criminal or Cleaning Fairy

Wouldn’t you love to come home to a clean house, freshly done laundry and dinner on the table? Sounds like Heaven doesn’t it? But what if the person who did those things was a stranger who broke into your home while you were at work to do those things? Doesn’t sound quite as lovely now does it? This actually happened. A man broke into a home in South Bend, Indiana, did some laundry, swept the floor and fixed dinner. The man seemed confused when police talked with him and needless to say the homeowner was a little frightened. The man … Continue reading

Time Saving Tips for Single Parents

As a single parent it is hard to find time to do much of anything. You are doing the work of two, but don’t get any extra time to do it in. We run from one thing to the next all day long and then we wake up and do it again the next morning. It’s easy to get burned out, but there are some things that you can do to make life a little easier. First things first, plan ahead! I can’t stress enough how important this is. Planning ahead may seem tedious at first, but the time you … Continue reading
