Remarriage

I would like to be married again. I don’t often say that because I don’t want people to look at me with that pitying look. No, I’m not miserable and lonely but I would like someone to share my life with, someone to hold my hand and talk about the day. I’m sure I look at remarriage through rose colored glasses, the same way I looked at marriage once upon a time when I didn’t know how very wrong things could go. Now that I’m older, I wonder what exactly it means to be married now. When you are young … Continue reading

Pregnancy the Third Time Around

I am in the stage of life right now where I could easily talk myself out of having another child. As I have blogged about before, it’s hard to know when to have another baby. But, I do know that I want another one. But, there are a few things that worry me. * Three seems like a crowd. While I have plenty of people in my life that have 3 or more kids, it just seems like a lot of little people to tote around. I envision myself trying to make a simple trip to the grocery store with … Continue reading

Interviews with Homeschoolers: Karen Loutzenhizer, Part One

Today I’m talking with Karen Loutzenhiser, a homeschooling mom from Utah who took time out to chat with me about her homeschooling journey. Karen, how did you know that homeschooling was the right choice for you? I have wanted to be a teacher since I was a little girl, and the only thing that could top that career in my heart and mind was being a mommy. By the time I got my degree in education, I already had two kids in tow. I knew that they were my absolute joy and my #1 priority. Why would I drop my … Continue reading

Pinkalicious: Pink Around the Rink

Just in time for the holidays comes a pretty pink stocking stuffer that’s as sweet as the cookies left out for Santa. Pinkalicious, the imperfect heroine of Victoria Kann’s uber-popular I Can Read! book series, is back, and she’s got a new talent to show off—-ice skating. In Pinkalicious: Pink Around the Rink, Kann proves that you can’t keep a perky, pig-tailed princess in training down. When Pink is presented with a new pair of ice skates she’s both tickled pink and perplexed at the same time. Why would her mother gift her with white ice skates when she knows … Continue reading

A Mom’s Guide To Sanity: Guilt vs. Hope

These two feelings may seem unrelated, but for me as the mother of an emotionally disturbed and mentally ill child these two feelings go hand in hand. It often seems like a tricky balancing act for me to best advocate for my child’s needs. Sometimes my Hope blinds me to signs of pending crisis leading to the dreaded feeling of guilt for not being on top of things this time around. Other times I feel a sense of guilt because that day I lacked the kind of Hope I want to have for my child’s future. It can be a … Continue reading
