Power Tool Know-How for the Single Mother

A close friend of mine, Sarah, is a single mom. Being single was not by her choice. However, this was the hand that was dealt to her in life. She tried extremely hard to make the best of it and overcome her circumstances. Sarah pressed on for the love of her children. She felt on some days that she was doing pretty good. Some days she felt as if she was the worst mother/father in the world.

For those of you who do not mind being a single mother or intended on being a single mother, I am happy for you. Sarah hates being a single mother with a passion. She especially hated using power tools. She had a few too many run-ins with them and it scared her half to death.

Sarah's most recent run-in sent her speeding to the hospital with a towel wrapped around her hand to stop the bleeding. While trying to keep up her yard up a light bulb went off in her head. BING! IDEA! She was feeling invincible. She got out the hedge trimmers and decided that she was going to trim the bushes. Now, it was not the first time that she had trimmed the bushes, but she was slightly more tired than usual on this particular day. Well, you know what came next. While trimming the bushes her arms got tired and she slipped even though she was trying to be very careful.

To make a long story short, beware of power tools! If you are especially tired, your arms are not what they used to be or you are feeling weak, get a man to do the job. I am not saying that all women cannot use power tools, but some woman just cannot. Either hire someone to do the job if it is in the budget or find a sympathetic man. Do not take chances. Power tools can be very dangerous and single moms are not always invincible even though they think they are. Just in case you were wondering, Sarah still has her fingers, but it could have turned out much worse. An angel just happened to be standing over her.
