Single Parents: Getting Assistanceby Angel Lynn Diamond | More from this Blogger 23 Feb 2009 05:43 PM Being a parent is one of the toughest jobs in life, if not the toughest. Being a single parent is even more difficult. In these trying economical times that we are living in it is hard enough to make it on two incomes, let alone one. You may come to the point where you just cannot keep up the fight. When and if things get to that point do not hesitate to check into receiving some type of government assistance. Before doing so it is important to work with the other parent to see if there is a better way in terms of supportive measures that the both of you can agree to. If single due to the death of your spouse pool together all of your other options and collect your spouse's social security insurance as his contribution to your family. Government benefits are available in many areas to those who qualify. Check out their website on http://www.govbenefits.gov/govbenefits_en.portal for assistance in several areas including energy assistance, childcare, health care for you and/or your children, insurance, food and nutrition programs, housing, counseling, the low income or unemployed person, careers and education and more. You would be surprised at the many areas that assistance is available for you, your children, or both. There are numerous programs out there especially designed for particular individuals meeting very detailed circumstances and/or situations. Accepting help is something that most of us would rather not do. Our pride gets in our way, but you need not feel this way. Each situation in a divorce or death is very unique. Sometimes there is nothing else that we can do and after trying our best, assistance seems to be the only option in order to survive. If you must accept assistance, do not be ashamed. Due to factors such as divorce, death, illness, or simply not being able to earn enough income to take care of our families will sometimes force us to accept the much needed help that government assistance programs are offering.
