Do NOT Reply All

Dear parents of school-age children, It’s not necessary to “reply all” to every single email sent from your child’s teacher… especially if your kid is in the same class as ours. Sincerely, Parents for the Prevention of Reply All Abuse Look, I’m all for open communication, especially when it involves parents and educators, and despite my glaring absence on Facebook, I really do appreciate the advantages associated with digital messaging.  However, when it comes to emails and the “reply all” function, I’m a real hater. I’m not a huge fan of checking emails to begin with, so when I see … Continue reading

The Overextended Mom

We all have times in our lives where we bite off a little more than we can chew. This is especially common among mothers, and perhaps even more common among single mothers who are doing everything on their own. In order to be a good mother we feel as if we need to take our children to soccer, piano, and ballet, volunteer in the classroom, help kids with homework, make sure they are getting three wonderfully cooked homemade meals each day, while talking to your mother on the phone, maintaining a spotless home, and preparing a presentation for your latest … Continue reading

10 Mistakes I Made As a First-Time Mom-Part I

My youngest sister is having a baby. She is 8 years younger than me, and I have always seen her as my baby sister. But, now she is having a baby of her own, and I couldn’t be more thrilled for her! I was thinking about some mistakes I made as a first-time Mom and how I wish I would have known better. Although, we all have to live and learn, so mistakes might not be the right word. However, I am proud to say that after baby #3, I do know better. I have learned from my mistakes as … Continue reading

Part of Something Greater

While being a parent is one of the greatest joys one can experience, there are certainly days that we all struggle with this wonderful and challenging job we are faced with. The everyday tasks of mothering are often monotonous and mundane. You spend the day cooking and cleaning, breaking up fights and running from one thing to the next, only to start all over the next day. There is no one there to cheer you on, or to tell you what a good job you are doing. Nobody sees the 8 loads of laundry you did, or the piles of dishes … Continue reading

Material Mom

Besides the fact that we are both moms and were born on August 16th, there is very, very little I have in common with Madonna. At least that’s what I thought before I caught a snippet of an interview the “Material Girl” just did with NBC’s “Rock Center.” Unlike Madonna I am not an international entertainment superstar, I don’t have arms that look like Rambo’s and I wholeheartedly oppose yoga as a way to add balance to my life. However, I recently discovered that when it comes to parenting, we have this in common: We would rather be dead than … Continue reading

Mean Moms

It’s hard to believe that we are raising our kids in a era where mom’s can be meaner than the kids! You know the mom I’m talking about, the one who is always bragging about how much better her kid is at everything than anyone else. She’s super competitive and has to make sure that she and her child are always the center of attention. She can also be really pushy, rushing in to organize everything and then excluding your child when you don’t appreciate how much she does for everyone. Those bully moms will gossip about you on the … Continue reading

Super Mom Snooki

Be afraid. Be very afraid. Rumors have been swirling for weeks, and now it appears that MTV’s resident smoosher is planning to go public with news that she’s got a mini meatball baking in her oven. Snooki, whose real name is Nicole Polizzi, is reportedly expecting her first child with… Well, isn’t that the million-dollar question? Okay, maybe not. But, the 24-year-old reality TV star is said to be raking in at least that much when she reveals her pregnancy and the ID of her baby daddy on her new MTV show– that’s not “Jersey Shore.” Snooki and fellow “Jersey … Continue reading

Marvel Introducing Line of Superhero Storybooks

When Disney bought Marvel nearly a year ago, many fans were torn as to whether this would herald a new era for the company or a disaster for one of the leading comic book institutions. One thing no one questioned, however, was why the Mouse House was interested in Marvel. Disney wanted a property for boys as prolific as its Princess and Pixie lines for girls, and Marvel provides that in spades. For the most part evidence of Marvel’s new ownership hasn’t been that obvious, at least to the more casual viewer. The most notable change was over the San … Continue reading

The Not-So Sexy Side of Teen Sex

You had to see this one coming. From the very first minute I saw Dr. Drew Pinksy’s new primetime HLN show last month, I knew it would be just a matter of time before his peeps from MTV would show up to chat. For the record it took exactly 29 days. The good doc had to wait less than a month to parade out the mega-popular teen moms, who went from complete obscurity to tabloid fodder after getting knocked up by their boyfriends, and letting MTV document the tumult that ensued in the series “16 and Pregnant” and the spin-off, … Continue reading

Give Boys Super Reading Powers

In many ways my 6-year-old daughter and 4-year-old nephew are like two peas in a pod. They both enjoy racing Hot Wheels, collecting rocks and pretending they are wolves in the wild. However, when it comes to books, the path splits and while one willingly devours tales of whimsy, the other heads for the hills in hopes that a stray title doesn’t accidently fall in his lap. It is a well-known myth that girls excel at reading while boys, due in large part to their superior spatial awareness, kill at math. And so it goes with my two cuties. My … Continue reading
