Toddler Toy Storage – I Am Doing it Wrong

Last night, a sort of light bulb went on in my head. I have been doing a lot of reading and research lately about home based preschool for Dylan, and for the past couple of days I have been looking at a lot of information about the Montessori method of schooling. In fact, I am beginning to get a very strong feeling that I am going to go that route with Dylan’s home based preschool experience. The light bulb went on when I realized that the environment in which Montessori education, whether at a school or in a home, takes … Continue reading

Doing Genealogy Wrong Leads to Prison

Making a simple mistake in your genealogy research is understandable, and generally harmless. However, intentionally doing genealogy wrong, in an effort to illegally make money for yourself, can result in a prison sentence. That’s exactly what happened to a women who was filing false tax returns with information she found while doing genealogy research. In April of this year, Shannon Kathlina Grimm, who lives in Montana, decided to do some genealogy research. The problem was, she wasn’t searching for information about her own ancestors. She also wasn’t helping other people fill in their family trees. Instead, Ms. Grimm was looking … Continue reading

Do NOT Check Your Email

Recently, my colleague, Stephanie Romero, wrote a post called The Distraction of Email. Amy Andrews, blogger extraordinaire, wrote a post called Ignoring Your Inbox, which was a review on a book about increasing productivity. I can tell you firsthand that email can throw your entire day off kilter. So, these posts were close to my heart. My morning routine included checking email and Facebook. I wanted to get a jump on the day by knowing what was going on in social media and checking to see if any important emails were sent or answered. I thought it was the right … Continue reading

Looking for Photos in All the Wrong Places

(I took this photo.) Do you ever wonder where your favorite websites find the amazing photos they display online? In some cases, the pictures are snapped by the site’s employees or professionals that are paid for their services. However, many times, individuals pilfer images from random sources without reading the terms and conditions of their use. For the record: Unauthorized use of a copyrighted photo is illegal. If you are in need of a picture to use for a term paper or to showcase on a personal website, public domain pictures are your best bet. However, keep in mind that … Continue reading

Genealogy Tip – Assume Nothing

Many of us know that it is often wise not to make assumptions. This is especially true when you are researching your family history. Grocery Shopping The Wrong Way

I’m not a good grocery shopper. I tend to fly by the seat of my pants. I don’t have a regular shopping schedule; I just go when I see we are running low on something. Usually this means I stop on the way home from work. This is always a bad idea for two reasons, number one, I don’t have a list and number two I’m starving before I’m halfway through the store so that means I buy lots of stuff that I don’t need. I used to be much better at grocery shopping. I went every weekend. I made … Continue reading

Now I Need Another Surgery

With my breast reconstruction I had a TRAM flap procedure which is basically where they take abdominal tissue and muscles and take them from the tummy and make you new girls with them. I am finally healed from the surgery and I have started noticing that something may not be quite right. Have you ever played with play dough and you push your finger in and it sinks? Well this is starting to happen with my new girls. I am realizing that something is wrong and I was getting concerned when we pushed on my girls I would get the … Continue reading

When Homeowners Insurance is Not Enough

A standard homeowners insurance policy can help you repair damage to your home, and to replace items that were stolen from it. However, this type of policy doesn’t provide you with financial protection for damages caused by the wrath of mother nature. Instead, there are a variety of other insurance policies that can help. Just make sure you buy the right kind of insurance before a disaster strikes. What happens if an earthquake strikes, and damages your home? A typical homeowners policy, like the kind you probably purchased when you got your mortgage, will not cover damages due to an … Continue reading

Scrappy Blog Mania

A few years ago when I was scrapping a ton, scrapbook blogs weren’t all that popular. Maybe they were, and I just didn’t know it because I didn’t have a blog myself at the time. But, now that I currently run 4 blogs, aside from writing here, I have blogging on my mind. Big surprise huh? The thing that has amazed me is that in the year or so that I took off from scrapbooking after my 2nd child was born, it seems the scrapbooking blogging world exploded. When I am on message boards, and forums, everyone is promoting their … Continue reading

Marriage Is Not a Private Thing

People often seem to think marriage is a private thing between two people. It is not. It is a societal event. That’s why in the marriage service it says ‘we are gathered here together.’ Marriage is meant to be something committed to it in front of witnesses. Usually those witnesses are friends and family members. We want them to share in and be part of our happiness. Why are these promises made in front of witnesses? It is a reminder of the solemnity of the commitment. It reminds the couple marrying and also in as sense those of us witnessing … Continue reading
