Unless You Are a Guy You Can Get Pregnant

Seven. That’s how many years it took before my kid asked the question. You know; the one that begins with “How” and ends with “do mommies get pregnant?” Before getting married and giving birth, I wondered how and when I would discuss the birds and the bees with my children. Well, I found out the when: July 2012. Unfortunately, I didn’t quite figure out the “how.” Sadly, I was not prepared to get into the nitty-gritty reproductive details with my second grader, so I mumbled something about God being in charge of giving the gift of life, blah, blah, blah, … Continue reading

Don’t Be The Bad Guy

Do you use your child as a pawn in your divorce? I have tried so hard not to do that but I’m sure at times I have been guilty of it as well. We are all human and we all do things that in hindsight we realize we shouldn’t have done. I’m not talking about small slips, I’m talking about the people who do this as their main means of communicating and punishing their ex. I know many single parents, that really is a sad reflection on our society. It seems that I don’t know anyone who is in their … Continue reading

Parents: There’s Power in Numbers

Subtitle: Katy Gets Kicked Off “Sesame Street” Last week I shared my enthusiasm for Sesame Street’s latest round of celebrity guests. Among them my childhood crush, Jason (yes, I think he’s hot) Bateman, Colin Farrell and Katy Perry. An eclectic mix for sure. Well, it was. For all of you moms and dads who have been living under a… mountain of dirty laundry, dishes and your kids’ strewn toys, I’ve got some bad or good news: Katy Perry will no longer be joining Elmo in the hood. Thanks to parental outrage that took the form of letter campaigns, emails and … Continue reading

Good Week/Bad Week Celebrity Roundup

For some celebs, it has been a really good week. For other celebs, not so much. It seems to have been a good week for Jesse James. Earlier this year, James was considered by many to be one of the most hated men in America for cheating on Sandra Bullock. Yet this week, he stepped out with a new woman – tattoo artist Kat Von D. The two were seen at dinner in Las Vegas last Thursday and Von D reportedly admitted on Twitter that the two were dating. She told Kevin & Bean on their LA radio talk show, … Continue reading

Biggest Disney Baddies

At the beginning of March I made an assertion that Maleficent was one of the best Disney villains. I wanted to back up my statement. I decided to make a top 5 Disney villain countdown and see how Maleficent ranks among them. At first I thought Maleficent would take the top spot. But considering the list made me wonder just how evil Maleficent was compared to Disney’s other antagonists, and so I decided to make the list about the most evil Disney villains: not necessarily creepy, or memorable, or interesting, but whose actions were the most deplorable. So here it … Continue reading

Television Good News and Bad News

If you are a fan of “How I Met Your Mother,” you may be happy to hear that the show will have several guest stars this season. In March, look for Jennifer Lopez to play self-help author Anita Appleby, a self-help author who plans to change womanizing Barney into a relationship guy. Also appearing on the show will be Carrie Underwood as Tiffany, Ted’s love interest. If you are a fan of “Survivor” and “The Amazing Race,” you will be happy to hear that both shows have been picked up. CBS announced that there will be at least two more … Continue reading

Guys, Watch Your Temper at Work!

Does something at the office just make you want to explode? Maybe it’s not “blowing your top” you should worry about, but blowing your heart. A new study from the Stress Research Institute of Stockholm University in Sweden has found a connection between bottling up anger at work and heart attack risk. Nearly three thousand employed men participated in the decade-long study. None had suffered a heart attack before the start of the study. During the study, however, nearly fifty men suffered from a heart attack or died from heart disease. Many of those men had been “covertly coping” with … Continue reading

Not So Bad Dad

With guys like Jon Gosselin, Alec Baldwin, Mel Gibson and the jerk who poisoned his kids for cash, still living and breathing, it’s easy to see why dads get dissed a lot in the media. But, not all dads are bad. In fact, some are down right nice. Just ask Joe Girardi’s daughters. New York Yankees’ manager Joe Girardi is the father of three children, and knows the importance of keeping the bond between child and parent strong. Girardi made headlines recently when he modified rules that put restrictions on players’ kids having access to their dads in the clubhouse. … Continue reading

Another Real Bad Dad

Move over Alec Baldwin, Mel Gibson, Jon Gosselin, “Slumdog” star pop, and the rest of you so-called “bad dads,” the feds have declared a new winner in the race for the world’s worst father. U.S. Marshals maintain that when it comes to pathetic parents Byron Perkins takes the cake. In 2005, the 40-year-old father pleaded guilty to drug and weapons charges in federal court. Perkins was sentenced to jail and remained there until last year when his young son became deathly ill and needed a kidney transplant to survive. Perkins begged a judge to release him on bond so he … Continue reading

Bad Dads Strike Again: Father Poisons Kids for Cash

Here’s another one for you guys. And by guys I mean gals. And by gals I mean moms. Outraged moms let their fury fly via comments left on my previous blogs detailing the sick, twisted and demented doings of bad dads from coast-to-coast. However, before I share this latest loser with the group I should note that I am by no means a dad basher by trade. It’s just that these guys make it so easy. Their reprehensible actions are constantly making headlines, and frankly some of what they do is simply too outrageous not to address. In all fairness, … Continue reading
